Position Overview: Atlanta Master Chorale seeks an accomplished and visionary executive director to lead and manage the organization in achieving its mission and vision. The executive director will be responsible for collaborating closely to establish and implement strategic initiatives, producing inspirational musical and outreach programs, ensuring financial stability, and representing the chorale to patrons, professional organizations, and the public. This role requires a dynamic leader with a passion for choral music and the ability to cultivate relationships within the community and the arts sector.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership and Administration:
Direct the Atlanta Master Chorale in establishing and executing short- and long-term plans that align with the chorale's mission and vision.
Collaborate closely with the artistic director to ensure artistic growth and support for the chorale’s programs and activities.
Attend all concerts, events, and meetings, as well as select rehearsals, to maintain a presence within the organization and engage with stakeholders.
Coordinate all arrangements for the timely planning and execution of the chorale’s performance schedule.
Oversee the production of the chorale’s concert programs and marketing materials to ensure high-quality presentation.
Work with venue leadership and box office staff to manage performance-related operations and ticketing logistics.
Community Engagement and Representation:
Serve as the primary contact for communication with donors, arts organizations, public and government agencies, the general community, and key patrons and volunteers.
Direct the flow of information to all constituents, enhancing the chorale’s image within the community and managing public relations efforts.
Provide exceptional “front of the house” customer service at all concerts, welcoming concertgoers and fostering relationships with donors.
Strategic Planning:
Collaborate with the artistic director, board, and executive committee to develop, implement, and monitor strategic plans that support programming, marketing, branding, and audience development.
Engage board and staff in periodic planning sessions to assess progress toward goals and adjust strategies as needed.
Approve all invoices, contracts, and agreements entered into on behalf of the organization.
Board Relations:
Work closely with the board of directors and its officers to facilitate effective governance and communication.
Attend all meetings of the executive committee and full board, providing comprehensive reports and insights.
Collaborate with the board chair to schedule meetings and assist in board recruitment and training efforts.
Financial Management:
Partner with the treasurer to conduct budget analysis, monitor cash flow, and anticipate potential financial challenges.
Prepare and manage budgets in compliance with approved financial plans and governmental regulations, presenting findings to the Board.
Ensure fiscal integrity by adhering to the approved budget and maintaining transparent financial operations.
Organizational Development:
Participate in professional development discussions with local and national choral leaders to enhance leadership skills and operational functions.
Identify strengths and weaknesses in operational activities and implement necessary improvements.
Identify and manage software and service platforms vital for the chorale’s operations.
Development and Fundraising:
Identify and pursue new sources of contributed income, including individuals, corporations, foundations, and grants, as part of a comprehensive fundraising strategy developed in collaboration with the board.
Plan and oversee the annual fundraising plan and individual donor campaigns.
Oversee the development of materials supporting development efforts that reflect the vision of Atlanta Master Chorale.
Acknowledge all donated funds in accordance with procedures approved by the board and ensure appropriate recognition in concert programs and/or other printed materials.
Develop a strategy for cultivating, securing, and sustaining corporate sponsorships and obtain concert sponsorships for the upcoming concert season.
Marketing:
Oversee marketing efforts by collaborating/delegating the various needs of the organization to fulfill the marketing plan.
Develop strategies for audience retention and growth.
Monitor progress of each concert’s marketing efforts.
Create outreach programs to raise awareness of the chorus among corporations, grant sources, and the public.
Community Relations:
Build relationships with local and national choral peers.
Manage collaborations with partners and organizations.
Oversee outreach programs like Conducting for Success and the Choral Composition Competition.
Represent the chorus at community events.
Act as spokesperson to media, government agencies, businesses, foundations, funders, and schools.
Staffing:
Hire, train, and supervise support staff as needed to meet organizational goals.
Create and maintain job descriptions for approved positions.
Prepare annual agreements with the artistic director and accompanist.
Hire for open positions as needed.
Monitor performance and take corrective action when necessary.
Establish a productive administrative structure and decision-making process, including weekly meetings with the administrative manager.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in arts administration, Music, Business Management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
Proven experience in a leadership role within a nonprofit arts organization, with a focus on choral or music programs.
Strong financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, financial reporting, and fiscal management.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including donors, community partners, and volunteers.
Passion for choral music and a commitment to advancing the mission of the Atlanta Master Chorale.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in arts administration, Music, Business Management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
Proven experience in a leadership role within a nonprofit arts organization, with a focus on choral or music programs.
