Position Overview
OBLF USA is seeking a dynamic and strategic Development Director to lead our fundraising and outreach efforts across the United States. This leadership role will focus on growing OBLF’s presence by driving fundraising initiatives, building community and corporate partnerships, strengthening our brand, and building and managing a team of U.S. based volunteers and consultants.
While this position will not involve direct programmatic oversight, it requires a strong understanding of OBLF India’s mission, model, and impact. The Development Director will collaborate closely with the leadership team in India and serve as the primary ambassador for OBLF India in the United States, cultivating relationships with donors, foundations, corporate partners, and individual advocates.
This is a high impact role for a purpose-driven professional passionate about advancing equity in rural education and healthcare.
Occasional travel to India is expected to build a deep understanding of OBLF’s on-the-ground operations.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising & Development:
Design and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy to secure support from individuals, foundations, and corporate partners.
Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with major donors, institutional funders, and philanthropic networks.
Lead efforts in grant research, proposal writing, and pitch presentations in close collaboration with the India-based leadership team.
Plan and manage fundraising events and donor engagement campaigns to drive visibility and contributions.
Community Building & External Relations:
Strengthen OBLF USA’s presence by developing strategic partnerships with mission aligned organizations, influencers, and networks across the U.S.
Serve as a visible and compelling spokesperson for OBLF at conferences, community events, donor gatherings, and in media opportunities.
Build and sustain a network of advocates, ambassadors, and volunteers to champion OBLF’s mission.
Develop and implement a strategic communications and outreach plan to increase brand recognition and donor engagement.
Strategic Leadership & Organizational Growth:
Collaborate with OBLF’s global leadership to align U.S. development efforts with the broader organizational mission and priorities.
Create and implement a roadmap for OBLF USA’s growth, with clear milestones for fundraising, operations, and impact.
Oversee financial planning and ensure compliance with U.S. nonprofit laws, including budgeting, donor reporting, and 501(c)(3) governance requirements.
Play a key role in establishing volunteer committees to deepen engagement and support.
Volunteer & Consultant Management:
Recruit, onboard, and manage a high-performing team of U.S.-based volunteers and consultants to support fundraising, marketing, and operational initiatives.
Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and mission alignment within the volunteer network.
Ensure volunteer-led activities are strategic, well-coordinated, and aligned with OBLF’s goals.
Qualifications & Experience:
Minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit management, with a strong emphasis on fundraising, brand-building, and strategic growth.
Demonstrated success in securing major gifts, cultivating corporate partnerships, and writing and winning grants.
Proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans that drive organizational impact and sustainability.
Experience managing and motivating volunteers, consultants, and cross-functional teams.
Exceptional communication, storytelling, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to inspire diverse stakeholders.
Entrepreneurial mindset with a self-starter attitude and a track record of working independently to achieve ambitious goals.
Deep commitment to social equity and a passion for serving underserved communities, particularly in the areas of education and healthcare.
