The Writer is a collaborative member of the Division of Philanthropy team, drafting compelling and meaningful communications to convey impact, inspire action, and relay gratitude on behalf of various executives across the Institute. The writing focuses on acknowledgments and other stewardship materials for a VIP donor base consisting of major, foundation, corporate, and historic donors. Responsible for assisting the entire Division with reaching financial goals. This position is considered remote, up to 1 day in the office at 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA each week. DFCI guidelines state that employees must reside in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Rhode Island.

Responsibilities:

• Working with all teams, fulfill stewardship writing needs on behalf of the Senior Vice President and Chief Philanthropy Officer, Institute President and CEO, Chairman of the Jimmy Fund, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
• Drafting acknowledgments and gift-related correspondence for major gifts, and gifts of any amount from Trustees and VIPs.
• Drafting condolence and congratulatory notes to Trustees, VIPs, event participants, and faculty.
• Drafting event-related materials including speaking points, pre- and post-event correspondence, invitations, program book letters, and donor bios, including for events or campaigns led by the Division’s Palm Beach office and for the Institute’s Presidential Symposium.
• Drafting special request correspondence for reporting, campaign, event fundraising, and other purposes.
• Work with teams annually to draft or refresh the automated acknowledgement template sent to more than 150,000 donors each year, as well as additional special use templates; collaborate with Donor Services and IS on implementation process.
• Assist in the refinement, training, and documentation of acknowledgment policies and procedures across the Division.
• Work with fundraising teams, Donor Services, Prospect Research, and IS to address donor-related acknowledgment questions.
• Work with Division and other Institute contacts to update Division Talking Points Guide on an annual basis.
• Conduct interviews, research, and write stories for donor newsletter, Impact.
• Track speakers, recipients, and other information related to donor-named awards and lectures.
• Complete project time tracking in QuickBase system.
• Other projects as necessary as programmatic responsibilities and writing assignments evolve.
• Reports to the Senior Assistant Director, Stewardship, Donor Relations.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of Philanthropy and writing experience required.
• Superb written and verbal communication skills, ability to conduct situational donor research and extract meaningful content for acknowledgement letters.
• Strong organizational and time management abilities.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Must be successful in adapting to various writing styles.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word required, SharePoint experience preferred.

This position will evaluate current programs and create and execute approved plans to expand and diversify the donors and participants for the events assigned in order to broaden our donor base and create even more inclusive events. Experience with diverse donors is a plus.
