Job Title:  Junior Graphic Designer

Department:  Marketing & Communications

Reports to:  Graphic Design Manager

Status:  Regular, Full-time, Exempt from Overtime

Summary:

The Junior Graphic Designer realizes a broad range of visual projects to support the organization’s marketing and communications needs with primary responsibility for producing the monthly program booklet. In addition to the Marketing Department, the Junior Graphic Designer also works with internal clients from a variety of departments, including development, artistic, and education.

Essential Job Functions:

• Support the organization through creative design in the following areas:
  • Ongoing in-hall concert materials including monthly concert program booklets, in-hall slides, marquee images, and livestream graphics
  • Print materials including brochures, postcards, invitations, advertisements, and signage
  • Digital graphics including email headers, social media graphics, web ads, and video editing
  • Other areas as requested
• Be the primary designer for the monthly program booklets
• In collaboration with the Graphic Design Manager and Creative Director, maintain the Houston Symphony brand identity, ensuring consistency across all materials
• Support the Graphics & Digital Content Manager in the development of conceptual ideas
• Schedule and prioritize graphic design projects in a systematic way
• In collaboration with the Graphic Design Manager and Creative Director, assist in production, printing and processing of marketing materials
• In all areas unify the quality and consistency of our communications
• Work collaboratively with members of the marketing team as well as other departments
• Work concert duty as Must be able to work some evenings and weekends
• Perform additional duties as required by the Houston Symphony

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and/or formal training in graphic design required
• 1–2 years job experience in graphic design and print production needed, preferably in the nonprofit sector
• Strong design portfolio with print and digital examples
• Expertise in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects required
• Basic understanding of Adobe Premiere Pro preferred
• Basic conceptual understanding of marketing preferred

• Ability to take design direction and adapt to constructive criticism
• Familiarity with print production with knowledge of printing processes and materials required
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including good proofreading skills
• Positive attitude with a team approach to project conception and completion
• Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented approach a must
