Employer Relations Consultant

Established in 1865, the George Washington University Law School is the oldest law school in the nation’s capital and one of the most prestigious law schools in the country. The Law School is accredited by the American Bar Association and is a charter member of the Association of American Law Schools. GW Law is located on the GW campus in the downtown DC neighborhood familiarly known as Foggy Bottom.
This position reports to the Associate Dean for Professional Development and Career Strategy (“Career Center”) and creates new employer relationships with a wide range of organizations in emerging legal and legal-education preferred fields. This dedicated outreach role builds and maintains ongoing relationships between employers and GW Law to enhance programs, create job internship and externship opportunities, and facilitate the post-graduate employment of students.
Representative Responsibilities:
•Develops relationships with new employers seeking legal talent to fill roles in areas such as, but not limited to, legal operations, compliance, technology, privacy, and small and medium-sized law firms. Creates resources to aid students in these specialty areas.
•Manages and increases the law school connections with local small and medium-sized law firms and in other top geographic markets for our graduates, to create enhanced job opportunities for students.
•Coordinates informational programs and special events/receptions to encourage employer-student interaction with employers.
•Conducts targeted and proactive organization research and outreach, including cold-calling and networking efforts, to expand our employer relationships and to create positions and post-graduate fellowships with all types of legal employers.
•Identifies qualified students for developed positions, including post-graduate fellowships, and assists with student applications and prepares students for interviews.
•Researches and analyzes trends in the legal and other hiring markets and creates related reports. Participates in the creation and dissemination of the Center’s employer informational materials including brochures and other marketing materials as needed.
•Participates in and serves as employer liaison to arrange meetings with GW Law School Deans and Career Center staff. Provides innovative ideas for developing new jobs and approaches to respond to the hiring needs of employers. Works with the Associate Dean and Career Center staff to strengthen relationships with employers, alumni and faculty.
•Collaborates with Director of Employer Outreach on securing employers and day-of logistics for Employer-in-Residence weekly programming.
•Internal outreach: manages Career Center relationships with student organizations in the law school, including the Student Bar Association; consults on student programs and events, secures speakers, collaborates on SBA initiatives and submits SBA newsletter content.
•Works with Career Center staff on programs to educate students about professional job opportunities in specialty areas. Ensures that all new jobs are advertised to various Career Center constituents.
The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
