The Vice President - Development position calls for a strategic and entrepreneurial leader with the capacity to produce extraordinary results. This role has responsibility for all development activities, including corporate relations and business and fund development. The main objective is to drive revenue growth through sponsorship and fund development. The position is responsible for identifying and soliciting as well as negotiating and closing with high-level, strategic sponsorship targets. The VP - Development is responsible for creating and executing a Sponsorship Strategy that identifies and pursues sponsorship candidate organizations, packages association assets for presentation to these organizations, and fulfills sponsorship agreements in support of the association’s mission.
Specific responsibilities include:
Creation and execution of a Strategic Sponsorship and Fund Development Plan that achieves the annual financial targets of the association and supports the association’s mission.
Create target categories of corporate sponsorship.
Create sponsorship product and appropriate benefits.
Organize and package association assets to sponsors in support of the association’s objectives.
Identify and pursue qualified sponsorship candidates; travel to secure new sponsors and renew existing partnerships, as appropriate; present sponsorship packages to candidates; reach mutually beneficial agreements.
Execute sponsorship program deliverables (promotions, programs) and service sponsor relationship.
Identify opportunities for NBMBAA to meet the specific needs of corporate partners. Propose programs, solutions, services and other offerings for development that support and/or enhance NBMBAA’s efforts to establish and build relationships with business and other sponsor entities. Identify opportunities and approaches for bundling NBMBAA offerings for adoption by partners.
Ensure detailed knowledge and understanding of NBMBAA’s Strategic Plan, key initiatives and operations to communicate applicable information about the organization effectively.
Organize, direct and implement Fundraising and Business Development initiatives. Work with philanthropists, high net worth individuals, successful businesses, the community and other NBMBAA leaders to secure donations, establish relationships, and meet fundraising objectives.
Serve as an active part of the senior management team.
Work with Relationship Managers and other team members to write, develop and coordinate proposals and fund development activities for NBMBAA services and programs as well as coordinate internal/external marketing activities for fund development.
Develop and implement three-year and annual fund development plans to address areas such as corporate and foundation grants, individual donors, and public relations, and a capital campaign.
Business development, prospecting, developing a referral network, building relationships and uncovering meaningful needs of potential partners.
Lead sales effort and compliance with all sales-related contracts, ensuring that agreements are developed and administered to be consistent with NBMBAA revenue and profit objectives.
Cultivate relationships with corporate, foundation, individual and community supporters and donors. Work with CEO to create prospect list and strategies for donor cultivation.
Effectively lead and develop team members.
Perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned or required.
Demonstrated ability to develop account strategies and drive processes; Strong relationship-management and teamwork skills; High energy and high-level business development leadership skills; Strong sales management knowledge and/or experience; Expertise in relationship building that increases account penetration and leads to increased revenue opportunities with existing clients.
A minimum of five years’ experience as a grant writer and a minimum of five years’ experience as a fund development officer (or equivalent position responsible for coordination of fund development activities) is preferred.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a related field and a minimum 10 years’ successful relationship building and fund development experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Master’s Degree in communications, sales, marketing or public relations preferred.
Previous experience in sponsorships, promotions, sales, marketing, advertising or public relations. Experience working in a non-profit.
