The Pilgrimage Coordinator coordinates pilgrimages to and events at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. This includes, but is not limited to, interacting with groups who wish to make pilgrimages to the Shrine, developing a schedule for their day, greeting pilgrim groups and orienting them to the Shrine, assisting with on-site transportation of pilgrims, leading tours of the Shrine Church, and ensuring that all pilgrim needs are met. This is an exempt, full-time position.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
Communicate with pilgrimage group leaders to coordinate and schedule pilgrimages to the Shrine;
Work with the Franciscans of the Immaculate to schedule special celebrations of Holy Mass for priests and pilgrimage groups;
Work with the Manager of the Culina Mariana Café to schedule meals for pilgrimage groups;
Greet pilgrimage groups upon arrival, orient groups to the Shrine, and conduct tours as needed or requested;
Coordinate and assist with on-site transportation of pilgrims;
Train, direct and supervise the Pilgrimage Assistant and Pilgrimage Department volunteers;
Coordinate the planning and scheduling of annual Shrine conferences and events before the beginning of each year;
Plan and execute various Shrine conferences and events throughout the year;
Maintain history files for Shrine conferences and events;
Ensure that a feedback mechanism is in place to assess pilgrim experiences;
Perform periodic analysis of pilgrim trends;
Work with the Pilgrimage Outreach Coordinator to encourage organized pilgrimages to the Shrine;
Deliver presentations about the Shrine and Our Lady of Guadalupe as requested;
Work with the Finance Department to create an annual budget for the Pilgrimage Department;
Respond to pilgrims’ questions regarding the Shrine, the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the Catholic Faith;
Participate in religious and liturgical functions of the Shrine, including Holy Mass, Rosary, Novenas and other devotional practices;
Represent the Shrine in external gatherings and meetings as requested.
The Shrine is seeking a practicing Catholic with sound knowledge of the Catholic Faith and its practices; of the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe; of the life of Our Lady’s faithful servant, Saint Juan Diego; and of the history and activities of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe at La Crosse. The candidate must possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of event planning and event coordination is desired. Significant organizational and personal skills are required in order to work and interact with pilgrimage groups. Previous experience in group tours and lectures is preferred. The coordinator must possess knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher) and Google e-mail and calendar services.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Conduct tours of the Shrine grounds in all seasons;
Must be able to walk up and down stairs;
Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to drive to various locations as required;
Must be able to use standard office equipment such as computers, printers, telephones, etc.
A bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, public relations, or a related field is preferred.
