Oversees functional area of responsibility or service line within Department of Public Affairs, convening a team of professional staff. Leads development and ensures successful execution and measurement of strategic Public Affairs strategies in support of International, demonstrating thorough understanding of communications discipline best practices. Specifically, the Director of the International Public Affairs holds the following responsibilities:
First point of contact for international leadership (both physician and administrative leads) assembling the right people within Public Affairs are engaged in a timely fashion to support strategies.
Ensure that comprehensive Public Affairs strategy in support of International is in place and successfully implemented.
Ensure strong working relationships between Public Affairs and the Department of Marketing and the Executive Office in support of Mayo Clinic’s International strategy.
A Bachelor’s degree in a related field, which may include liberal arts, business, communications, marketing, health care or similar field and 10 years’ professional experience in the field of communications, with at least three years’ experience leading and managing high-performing teams OR a Master’s degree in a related field, which may include liberal arts, business, communications, marketing, health care or similar field and 8 years’ professional experience in the field of communications, with at least three years’ experience leading and managing high-performing teams. Master’s or Doctorate-level degrees preferred. Proven communications expertise and servant leadership skills. Strong communications expertise and experience managing teams in corporate or health care communications, staff engagement communications, media relations, news delivery, social media or philanthropy communications. Ability to effectively build, lead and motivate teams of individuals with diverse skills and abilities. Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills with excellent strategic judgment. Skilled in collaborative problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution. Must possess strong leadership, analytical, oral, written communication presentation, organizational and project management skills. Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, changing environment. Must possess the ability to inspire trust and confidence and maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality. Must possess political savvy and ability to function effectively in the face of ambiguity. Able to appropriately handle sensitive, confidential and proprietary information. Ability to rally team and consistently deliver positive results. Has a positive influence on others. Must have the ability to build positive, cross-functional relationships and navigate a complex organization with consensus decision-making. Proven ability to effectively manage change. Demonstrated success in budget management. Position requires occasional travel and the flexibility to work weekends and evenings as necessary.
