CARITAS, Waco, TX., a 501c3 non-profit founded in 1967, is an independent, ecumenical community-based organization. The Caritas mission is to provide urgent support to people in need in the Heart of Texas community primarily through the food pantry. Caritas also provides emergency assistance for housing and clothing needs. Caritas umbrella services include SNAP Outreach, Veteran’s case management in 7 counties and healthy nutrition services like Healthy Pantry, and Live Well Waco.
The philosophy of Caritas is to move low income families “beyond hunger to hope” through complimentary programs of urgent assistance and case management intervention.
The current budget is $2.2 million, serving about 32,000 families, 91,000 individuals, and distributes 3.5 million pounds of food through the food pantry services annually. Caritas works from an 35,000 sq. ft. office and warehouse facility located on Mary Street in Waco, TX.
Caritas partners with Center Texas Food Bank, Austin, Tx., a Feeding America member food bank, and local partners like Walmart, HEB Food Stores and Sam’s Club to serve its clients and advance the mission. Many churches and other organizations provide weekly volunteer help to the food bank to supplement help in addition to the employees.
Caritas board members seek an innovative, experienced and passionate Executive Director to lead the organization in its efforts to alleviate hunger in Waco, McLennan County, Texas and the surrounding area. The successful candidate will have an understanding of the nature of poverty and food insecurity, and the crucial ability to interact compassionately with understanding for people of different cultures, backgrounds, and economic levels.
The Executive Director (ED), a full-time employee, reports to a volunteer Board of Directors (BOD). The ED works closely with the BOD to focus community efforts to advance the long and short-term goals of Caritas to eliminate hunger in its service area.
The salary, with performance bonus potential, is competitive for the authority level and responsibility and is equitable to similar positions in the region. A benefits package is provided. Relocation assistance is negotiable
Caritas embraces diversity and equal opportunity in a serious way. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives and skills. The more inclusive we are, the better our work will be.
