To carry out its mission to illuminate the natural world and inspire its conservation, the Friends of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences relies on a stable base of active, and a steady influx of new members to ensure a pipeline of critical annual funding. The Membership Coordinator is the point person for recruitment, stewardship, communications and programming for members. The Membership Coordinator works to organize membership expansion through marketing and recruitment drives. He/she develops relationships to help maintain member satisfaction with the Museum. The Membership Coordinator must be a highly organized individual with excellent communication skills in order to welcome new members and cultivate prospects. He/she should possess the creativity and analytical talent to effectively coordinate membership drives, plan and execute events, and manage the budget. The Membership Coordinator generally works in an office environment but also implements events on and offsite.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare, implement and evaluate an annual strategic plan to grow the membership program, including but not limited to marketing and communications, events and best practices.
Establish strategy, timelines, and coordinate fulfillment for, all membership mailings and email communications including acquisitions, renewals, upgrades, invitations, general communications. Assist with Annual Fund appeal.
Prepare and manage annual membership income and expense budget.
Develop and implement member events and activities.
Develop and produce membership direct mail campaigns, e-news and printed membership materials. Create digital and print content in coordination with Marketing Department.
Gather, interpret, analyze and report statistics and other data to inform membership strategies, with a high degree of attention to detail.
Work with Database Coordinator to actively utilize membership/donor database (Altru-based), run monthly reports, run queries and create mailing lists.
Coordinate with Museum Box Office on membership sales goals, promotions and onsite sales processes.
Develop and maintain relationships with current and prospective members.
Occasional weekend and evening work required for events.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of three years’ experience in membership, preferably at a nonprofit organization.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Working knowledge of donor database programs (Altru experience preferred).
Working knowledge of email marketing/survey programs and Wordpress.
Experience in writing promotional content for multiple channels (print, digital & social media).
Experience in event development and logistical implementation.
Detail oriented and organized with the ability to multi-task.
Excellent customer service skills.
Professional demeanor with strong interpersonal skills.
Comfortable working with members, donors, Museum staff, Board members and the general public in person, via phone and via email.
Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
