The Director of Donor Relations and Development Communications will oversee comprehensive and long-term strategy and management of donor engagement for the University in coordination with U Health, including both donor relations/stewardship and development communications. The Director will manage message development and communication, identify and execute proactive, donor-centric stewardship and recognition opportunities across multiple platforms, and provide planning, consultation, and coordination with college and area development programs.
1. Develop the message platform and regularly review existing communication tools used in University Advancement, serve as primary liaison to University Marketing and Communications, and manage donor communications from University Advancement, including print and on-line channels; 2. In coordination with U Health and areas/colleges, develop a proactive strategic plan that includes a stewardship matrix for acknowledgments, events to recognize a significant gift, donor benefits, and a review of current practices and compliance with University policy and federal tax regulations; 3. Manage the National Advisory Council to achieve its purpose to improve the relationships between the University and its constituencies; 4. Serve as a resource to areas and colleges to ensure donor stewardship, recognition, and communication is consistent across campus; 5. Collaborate with Advancement administration and Principal Gifts staff to deliver appropriate recognition and acknowledgment to principal gift donors; 6. Oversee gift agreements for pledges, principal gifts, and endowments, and with Advancement Services, ensure their ongoing compliance and donor stewardship; 7. Develop and oversee a stewardship and communications budget for University Advancement; 8. Manage a staff of eight donor relations and communications professionals; 9. Develop and manage an annual calendar of communications and events; 10. Develop criteria for measuring stewardship and retention success, tracks results, and advise Advancement leadership of on-going progress and recommendations; 11. Stay on the forefront of stewardship best practices by attending conferences and joining donor relations professional groups to bring those best practices to University Advancement. 12. Report to the Chief Philanthropy Officer and coordinate with Prospect Management, Principal Gifts, Planned Giving, Advancement Services, Corporations and Foundations programs in University Advancement as well as the U Health stewardship office.
10 years experience in advancement and/or communication; progressive experience in organizing and managing high-level events; demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated experience managing and inspiring staff; demonstrated ability to work effectively, creatively, and inclusively with a variety of constituencies and diversity of ideas; deep understanding of and appreciation for the philanthropic process and the role of communication and acknowledgement in that process; attention to detail.
