The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Legal Counsel - Bequests and Planned Giving Director oversees bequest-related matters for WWP including providing advice and guidance to WWP leadership, managing the bequests team, providing guidance on the WWP Long-Term Support Trust (LTST), and ensuring all bequest case files, information, reports and other documents are completed accurately.
Serve as the principal point of contact for bequests matters for the organization.
Lead and manage a team of paralegals and legal professionals responsible for handling all bequest matters for the organization.
Provide legal advice regarding planned giving to WWP’s Major Gifts and Resource Development teams.
Manage bequest-related legal and financial notices, correspondence, and litigation.
Coordinate with multiple stakeholders, including Major Gifts, Resource Development, Accounting, Finance, outside counsel, financial advisors, and trustees and personal representatives as needed.
Oversee and manage the maintenance of bequest case files and correspondence records.
Ensure all necessary information, materials, reports, and other documents are complete and accurate bequest records are collected and maintained.
Draft, review, and revise correspondence, waivers, and releases related to bequest files.
Perform research on bequest and planned-giving topics.
Collaborate to prepare and present bequest training and education.
Oversee and maintain systems which safeguard confidential company information and personally identifying information.
Provide guidance on LTST, including providing legal advice on services offered by LTST.
Provide legal advice and guidance on other legal issues such as contract reviews, as needed to support the overall legal department.

Juris doctor (J.D.) degree.
Seven years of trust and estate planning experience as in-house counsel in a legal department or as an attorney in a law firm.
Three years of staff management experience.
Ten years of trust and estate planning experience as in-house counsel in a legal department or as an attorney in a law firm
Five years of experience in a non-profit organization.
Five years of experience working with planned giving programs.
