The position will serve as a utility player under the Water Education & Volunteer Program in the Office of Civic Engagement, helping to implement a wide variety of water supply tours and related outreach activities. The position will primarily coordinate our Water Supply Outreach & Tours project area, specifically recycled and purified water efforts as well as Pacheco Reservoir expansion efforts. As a utility player, the position may also support other special events / tours/ open houses in support of other Valley Water efforts such as the Water Ambassador tours. This position will manage the day-to-day tour program operations and logistics of the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center, as well as public outreach tours for Pacheco Reservoir and/or other facilities with the ultimate goal to educate, inspire, and build public support for Valley Water projects.
This position requires a willingness to work long hours and/or weekends on an as-needed basis. In addition to a routine work schedule, this position involves frequent night and weekend work. Specifically, this position will participate in planned public relations, marketing, outreach and community engagement events/activities, which may include after-hour commitments.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Execute and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the tours program as well as the public communications and outreach activities for the Water Supply Outreach & Tours project area, including developing public information & education materials, and social media engagement.
Organize and plan special events such as Open Houses, Community or VIP tours, youth or community outreach events, and targeted community tours.
Public outreach duties include leading public-facing tours as a lead Tour Guide and Outreach Specialist, preparing and making public PPT presentations to internal and external stakeholders including community and youth groups, and building stakeholder and public acceptance through community outreach, special events, and public education.
Work closely with the Volunteer & Public Engagement Lead and Water Education Outreach/ Volunteer Staff to organize and coordinate tour program scheduling and staffing and work with the Communications Unit staff to develop external and internal communications such as outreach materials (print and/or online) and/ or employee communications.
Implement key project activities such as planning and coordination with marketing/ PR consultants to implement the social marketing/ media campaign, website updates, creating or updating public information and education materials.
Support the project team in developing training materials and provide training support and guidance to temporary contract staff.
Track work plan goals and deliverables for completion, compile requested data for a variety of reports, prepare written summary reports, compile tour survey results, order program supplies, giveaways, materials, print production and/or translating of public information materials.
