We have an opportunity available in New York for a Director of Accounting. This role is ideal for a current CPA who is looking for personal and professional growth in a dynamic not-for-profit organization that values competence, professionalism and problem-solving curiosity. Working alongside the Senior Director of Accounting and reporting to the CFO, s/he will be part of a team based in NYC with responsibility for the organization’s timely and accurate accounting and reporting.
Assists in managing the accounting operations and functions for the organization (head office and 21 branches) and a smaller related affiliate to ensure that processes and procedures are in compliance with standard GAAP account regulations and organizational policy
Plans, directs and executes all corporate and branch accounting operational functions, including global general ledger and financial statement consolidation
Provides guidance and supervision to two additional team members Supervises preparation of internal and external reports and registrations for stakeholders including management, funders and donors
Qualifications & Education:
Completed Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related major; CPA accreditation a must
A committed team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills
3-5 years’ experience; preference given to candidates who have a background with a lending organization (nonprofit and grant fund accounting knowledge a plus)
Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) and experience with or an interest in learning non-profit accounting principles and procedures
Strong proficiency in the use of productivity software; knowledge of Microsoft productivity software (Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Excel)
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage and complete multiple projects simultaneously; capable of rapid coordination and distribution of information
Ability to work independently with a high degree of reliability, accuracy and productivity
Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships and effectively address complex and sensitive administrative issues throughout the spectrum of our constituents
Strong time management and multi-tasking abilities
Experience with cloudbased ERP environments; experience with Intacct and or Kyriba preferred
Passion for working in a social business environment; ambition to grow in the organization
High professionalism and ethical standards
Familiarity with implementing and working with complex integrated management information and accounting systems a distinct plus
Fluency in spoken and written English; Spanish proficiency a plus
