The Program Communications Associate is responsible for performing all forms of written and digital communication to promote the mission and programs of the Believe In Tomorrow National Children’s Foundation (“BIT”) and The Children’s House at Johns Hopkins (“TCH”). This will include all printed publications, creative marketing materials, social media posts and website content. The position is also responsible for developing and managing media relations and assisting in the grant writing process.
Responsible to: VP/COO; works closely with CEO and Director of Development
The Communications Associate is responsible for evaluating BIT’s existing communications platform and workflow, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and assisting in the development of a detailed plan to execute organizational marketing and communications goals. Duties will include (but are not limited to):
Assist in developing a comprehensive media plan that will generate visibility and awareness for BIT and TCH
Help craft story ideas, write and edit copy for email communications, including family stories, volunteer stories, workplace giving and other seasonal appeals
Ensure all BIT and TCH descriptions and programmatic content is consistent throughout all forms of communication
Develop and help manage media relationships
Maintain a Media Contacts system – points of contact
Monitor and track all media coverage and file appropriately
Assist with internal communications and organizational pieces as needed
Working with the Graphic Designer, continually update the BIT website so the content is always current
Reassess the navigability of the site as needed and monitor for any fluency problems
Continually research and implement a favorable SEO plan in an effort to promote the website and increase click-through site visits
With the COO, CEO and Director of Development, expand brand development and marketing strategy
Assist in the development of marketing materials for presentations and proposals in support of the organization
Working with the Director of Development and CFO, assist in grant writing for BIT and TCH; assist also in identifying grant opportunities for both organizations.
Maintain BIT’s social media presence through Facebook and other social media sites
Help train other staff to support Communications with leads on stories, photos, videos, etc.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications or Journalism
Experience: 2 years’ work experience in the communications field is preferred.
Social media marketing and/or charitable non-profit experience is a plus.
Knowledge of Google AdWords and Google Analytics is a plus.
Must be a self-starter with exceptional writing and editing skills
Must be able to gain a substantive understanding of our organization quickly
Must possess strong computer, organizational and verbal communication skills
