The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) is seeking a Publications Coordinator. TMS publishes six technical journals, and has a book publishing program that produces more than 15 conference proceedings publications each year. This position will assist in managing the journals and books programs, and serve as the liaison to the Society's publishing partner and to several journal editorial teams. The Publications Coordinator is an important contributor to the overall health of the TMS publishing operation.
Specific responsibilities include:
Assists in managing the Society's content-dissemination channels (e.g., journals and books) and content partners (e.g., commercial publisher agreements and partner society agreements)
Serves as the liaison to the journal editorial offices, and assists in managing contracted technical editors and editorial service vendors
Manages the Society's conference proceedings workflow and ensures proper quality control measures are followed
Serves as a core member of the JOM journal team, handling an assigned set of responsibilities and participating in strategic initiatives
Serves as a representative to journal management teams and TMS publishing partners, helping to ensure that the Society's interests are represented
The ideal candidate will have:
A 4-year college degree
At least 5 years of experience in organizational publications development, ideally in an association environment
A strong understanding of journal peer-review, editorial, and production workflows
Experience with at least one publications manuscript system
The ability to work independently, provide project leadership, and handle multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills
A high degree of comfort in working with scientists and engineers who are serving as both volunteers and independent contractors
