Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is seeking an experienced multi-channel direct response fundraising professional to lead its effort to build a robust donor program for supporters who give contributions up to $10,000.00 annually.
Building off a current base of 20,000 donors and more than half a million ticket and membership holders, and currently generating more than $4 million annually, WCS is looking for a leader who can build an individual giving program of tens of thousands of new donors annually who will be committed to the mission of the organization and who can donate $10 million annually within the next five years.
This new position is a leadership role in the growing Individual Giving Program of the Global Resources Department of WCS. It is an exciting opportunity to create and develop a major new source of revenue for the largest and most respected wildlife conservation society in the world.
The position will report into the Vice President for Individual Giving. He/she will work closely with other in-house fundraisers, researchers and marketers and will be expected to hire and manage necessary outside creative, digital, direct response and data agencies.
Develop and manage a five year fundraising plan that can provide a strategic road-map, along with investment costs and income to achieve the following within the next five years:
generate $10 million in annual income
build a solid donor base of 100,000 plus donors
Serve as a robust pipeline to the major gifts pyramid, consistent with our five year fundraising ramp
Hire the necessary internal and external talent, both creative and analytical, to execute and monitor a five year plan across all fundraising platforms.
Digital fundraising is the dominant channel for membership fundraising. Work with outside agency to strengthen current digital platform and build a robust testing plan.
Identify new or un-developed direct response fundraising channels. Determine ROI costs as well as how new channels can be leveraged with existing digital efforts to maximize fundraising.
Introduce and guide external creative strategists and copywriters to the rich and abundant program content of WCS to develop powerful marketing offers, copy and design that will generate immediate revenue and strengthen donors’ commitment to the organization.
Leverage other WCS properties such as zoo attendance, events, lectures, breaking news, etc., as additional avenues to build a donor base and to generate revenue.
Produce quarterly performance reports.
Manage a small internal team and required outside agencies. Internal staffing is expected to grow as the program expands.
Work with other senior leaders of the Individual Giving Program to review high value members coming on to the donor file. Coordinate cultivation and upgrade strategies to develop these donors’ interest in and support of WCS.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
Ten years of demonstrated experience in building and growing a fundraising donor base using multiple online and offline channels.
Pro-active strategic thinker who can lead an effort with internal and external resources to develop a five-year fundraising plan that lays the groundwork for a growing donor base of annual donors under $10,000, and develops a strong pipeline of donors into the major and leadership gifts programs.
Strong program and personnel management skills with the ability to multi-task under deadlines.
Ability to cultivate and upgrade donors through existing programs and the ability to develop new fundraising opportunities.
Effective team player who can work well with several other inter-dependent Development groups to strengthen donor interest and support: Major Donors, Donor Research, Communications, Events.
Skilled at guiding and merging analytical data and creative message development to maximize donor support.
Superior inquisitive and motivational skills to foster an active testing environment.
Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
A high level of personal and professional interest in the mission of the organization.
