The Hartford Foundation is seeking a Director of Human Resources at a critical time in its history and a pivotal moment for the region. We are searching for a leader who is passionate about the organization’s mission, committed to a cross- disciplinary and entrepreneurial culture, and farsighted about its future potential.
The Director of Human Resources leads the HR function in support of the organization and its mission by developing and delivering programs to attract, retain and develop a diverse, high performing workforce. The Director will report to the Vice President of Finance and Administration and will serve as an advisor to the entire organization providing advice and counsel on all human resources matter. Successful collaboration with all members of the Foundation team is an essential requirement. An assertive, yet “customer-centric” approach to the responsibilities of this position is also an indispensable necessity.
The successful candidate will bring experience in both the design, execution and administration of a broad array of HR programs as well as experience in the advancement of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in their work.
The successful candidate will have an open, collaborative and highly communicative leadership style; demonstrated success in previous HR positions and a willingness to handle both the strategic and hands on administrative components of this role.
Strategy, Vision, Collaboration and Leadership
Provide strategic vision, leadership and oversight of all HR activities to support the Hartford Foundation’s mission and work;
Work collaboratively with senior leadership and staff to ensure HR programs are meeting the needs of the organization;
Contribute to the development of the Foundation’s human resources and DEI strategy ensuring alignment with the Foundation’s strategic plan;
Serve as the Foundation’s primary point of contact for all HR matters.
HR Program Design Execution and Administration
Plan, manage and execute human resource programs including performance management, professional and career development, succession planning and employee engagement;
Ensure that the organization’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) is reflected in HR policies and programs. Work closely with the organization’s leadership and DEI advisory group in development of DEI priorities and strategies;
Manage the recruitment, selection and on-boarding of a diverse, high performing workforce;
Develop, manage and administer compensation and benefit programs that align with the organization’s mission, values and strategy;
Maintain compliance in all components of human resources administration including HR policies, data and information.
Manage overall office support including reception, oversight of office space and supplies and serve as the liaison to building management;
Manage department budget.
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or a related field
5 or more years of HR leadership experience in organizations with highly trained and experienced knowledge workers
Expert level generalist knowledge of the human resources field including recruitment, DEI, organizational design and development, performance management, compensation, benefits, training and development, state and federal legal and regulatory compliance
Strong collaboration and communication skills
Preference for leadership experience in non-profit organizations with an in-depth knowledge of the Greater Hartford community
Demonstrated commitment to community service and philanthropy
