CPNJ seeks an energetic, self-directed individual to join our agency as a member of the Senior Management Team during a period of growth and transition. The successful candidate will re-structure the Finance Department to improve processes and increase service. In addition to AP, AR, Accounting, Financial Analysis, and Payroll, this position plays a key role in Property Development and Facilities.
The ability to work well in a team and communicate effectively is essential. This position has high visibility with the Board of Trustees and regulatory agencies.
The CFO oversees all compliance for government (federal and state) contracts as well as all regulatory bodies. The CFO is responsible for all day-to-day fiscal operations for the revenue cycle as well as all fiscal reports and internal/external audits,
President and CEO/Executive Director
Oversee cash flow, planning, and ensure availability of funds
Oversee cash, investment and asset management
Oversee financial strategies and banking relationships
Develop and employ predictive business models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the organizations operations and business plans.
Planning, Policy, and Investor Relations:
Coordinates the development and ongoing monitoring of annual operating budget and capital budget.
Ensures all budgets for government contracts, foundation grants, and other funders are prepared on-time, approved and followed-up with timely and accurate expenditure reports.
Participate in corporate policy development as a member of the senior management team.
Represents CPNJ to financial partners, including financial institutions, investors, foundation executives, auditors, public officials, etc.
Function as the lead staff on the finance committee of the board of trustees and engage them on ongoing financial oversight including financial plans, operating results and agency-wide policy.
Accounting and Administration:
Ensures maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures
Ensures timely, accurate and useful financial and management reporting for government funders, foundations, CPNJ’s Board of Directors, oversees the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements
Coordinates audits and the proper filing of tax returns.
Ensure legal and regulatory compliance in all financial functions.
Facilities (Property, Plant and Equipment)
Oversee all construction projects at CPNJ.
Work with the Director of Facilities to assure ongoing maintenance of all properties.
Work with the Transportation department to assure ongoing maintenance of all vehicles.
Oversee the inventory of all equipment.
Oversee all leases, mortgages and other financial arrangements.
Strategic Planning and Business Development
As a member of the senior team, help identify and prioritize long-term goals and strategies for CPNJ.
Assume a leadership role in helping CPNJ identify new business opportunities and providing financial models for other senior staff to analyze business opportunities.
Set long-term, medium-term and short-term financial goals for CPNJ with the Board of Trustees and the senior team.
Identify new and pursue funding as appropriate.
Extensive knowledge of the practices and principals of fiscal planning and management, accounting, budgeting, cash management, grant funding, relevant state and federal statues, rules and regulations governing fiscal management of a non-profit organization, working knowledge of computerized accounting systems and knowledge of MS Excel and Word;
Skills and Abilities
Ability to adhere to program criteria as established by funding sources; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; represent CPNJ to outside sources; organize work activities and supervise staff; establish and maintain proper working relationships with staff at all levels, members of Board of Trustees, funding source officials, and representatives of outside agencies; respect and maintain confidentiality; maintain a safe working environment adhere to ethical standards, personnel policies and procedures and standard health precautions
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics or other relevant discipline. CPA or MBA desired. At least 10 years of experience in the field of accounting including three years of experience in the non-profit sector with budgets of $15 million or more; at least five years of experience in a supervisory capacity. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Since 1953, CPNJ has supported thousands of individuals with developmental delays, disabilities or family challenges in pursuit of their personal potential and success in the communities in which they reside.
From our early beginnings in a hospital basement with a few concerned families and their children, CPNJ has grown to touch the lives of over 1,500 participants annually, employ over 800 individuals and provide support throughout New Jersey with an annual budget of over $36 million.
Looking toward the future, we will continue to target growth and enhancement of our programs by filling service gaps and responding to a need for innovative and flexible programming as we adapt to the implementation of fee-for-service in DHS funded programs.
