The Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) Department is seeking an individual to serve as the Operations Manager.
About Madison School & Community Recreation Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) serves a community of 230,000 in Madison, WI, with 75 full time and 2200+ seasonal staff members. MSCR offers a full range of recreation programs and services utilizing school facilities, parks, and other community facilities. Programs include fitness, aquatics, adult and youth sports, after school child care, summer camps, outdoor adventure, middle school youth resource centers, arts, and sports camps. MSCR is a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District, providing public recreation and after school programming for the Madison community since 1926.
Manage the department operations; including marketing and outreach services, human resource functions, and equipment maintenance operations.
Performs expert-level managerial work providing long-range planning and direction, assisting the Executive Director in carrying out the vision, mission, and goals of the Department.
May assume the Director's responsibilities for the day-to-day management of the department in the Director's absence.
Assists the Director in planning, direction setting, and implementing a strategic direction for the department.
Represents the Department in dealing with both public and private organizations, the community, and the media.
Performs related duties as required.

The ideal candidate will have experience in marketing/outreach and human resource functions, and other "operational" experiences. The Operations Manager will be someone with the skills to manage a talented multi-disciplinary staff, work with peers to implement outreach services, and integrate a diversity of interests within the larger community.

A Great Manager The Operations Manager will support Department wide functions and also provide direct management to major operating teams and/or priority projects. An effective Operations Manager will recognize own professional skills and abilities and put them to use in support of the goals of MSCR.
A Strategic Implementer The ideal Operations Manager will demonstrate an expert ability to develop, plan, and implement department wide programs, policies, and procedures. At the direction of the Executive Director, the Operations Manager will be responsible for implementation of department priorities that cross team lines; developing the systems and overseeing the structures needed to do so. We are looking for someone who can articulate the Superintendent’s vision for MMSD and develop best-in-class systems to implement that vision within MSCR.
An Energetic, Positive Leader The Operations Manager, together with the Executive Director, will build and facilitate a culture within the department that embraces public service, innovation, and change. The position will create a positive work environment that establishes MSCR as an employer of choice; one that attracts and retains talented employees, supports and rewards teamwork, is open to new ideas, and celebrates success. The position will establish best-in-class hiring, training, and evaluation processes. In the Executive Director's absence, the Operations Manager will represent the department and administration in meetings with MMSD staff, Advisory Committee Members, and external partners.
