The creation of the HHC System Support Office recognizes the work of a large and growing group of employees whose responsibilities are continually evolving so that we and our departments now work on behalf of the system as a whole, rather than a single member organization. With the creation of our new umbrella organization we now have our own identity with a unique payroll, benefits, performance management system, service recognition programs and other common practices across the system.
The Planning & Business Development Director (the “Director”) oversees the planning, implementation and monitoring of all initiatives that contribute to the financial soundness and growth of Hartford HealthCare (HHC) and the Director’s system Regional/Institute unit. The Director works closely with the Regional/Institute Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and senior managers in SSO support functions of operations, finance, human resources, and quality.
Facilitates the strategic planning function and cascading long term and annual (balanced scorecard) cascading priorities.
Directs planning activities to ensure strategies, structures, and operational models support the mission and vision of HHC.
Oversees Business Unit Review including Dashboard reporting.
Educates others about the value of disciplined planning, applying relevant trends, environmental and competitive assessments and benchmarking against best practices and other planning related tools and processes.
Provides counsel and support to senior management and physician leadership.
Has ability to interpret and obtain/retain/share knowledge of significant market trends (examples: competition, regulatory changes, consumer demographics, and payer and insurance industry changes), and assess their impact on HHC members’ performance relative to industry benchmarks and market competition with support of SSO Business Development office.
Collaborates with member vice presidents and directors to identify, evaluate and develop new business opportunities to grow the base of business and increase market share.
Assists with new markets, new products and new services, that are consistent with the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the HHC.
Assists with developing and integrating new business lines and partnerships
Assist in evaluating the performance of existing programs and services, the current location of facilities and project demand for hospital and ambulatory services to include in broader planning initiatives.
Measure current status against business objectives – especially growth and profitability – and identify new opportunities for potential mergers, acquisitions, or affiliations.
Lead member business initiatives related to physician relations and alignment.
Ensures accuracy of information on appropriate website(s), and integrates digital platforms (such as social media, web, e-marketing, visual story-telling) into communications and marketing strategy.
Collaborates with organizational stakeholders including senior leadership, business development team, service line leaders, strategy group, and other functional areas to create strategies, tactics and marketing communications materials that convey key program and solution offerings to target markets while ensuring a cohesive marketing strategy across the organization.
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, healthcare administration, business administration, or another related field Education
Master’s degree in Business, Health Administration, or a related field preferred. Extensive communications or strategic planning experience in lieu of academic credentials may be considered.
A minimum of five years’ experience as an integral participant in communications and/or strategic planning and business development resulting in a comprehensive enterprise-wide strategic planning process. Health care experience preferred, though other service-oriented industry experience may be considered.
Experience working in a large matrix organization with a complex integrated service delivery system in a competitive market, preferably multi-institutional and multi-market. Demonstrated technical strength in core business areas of business development, data analysis, financial analysis, benchmarking, marketing, finance, strategy and process improvement is required.
Demonstrated experience in working in partnership with leaders including CEOs, vice presidents and physicians as well as senior professionals in financial planning, management engineering, communications, marketing, public relations and quality. Proven effectiveness in developing and implementing strategic plans and business cases with measurable results that enhance the organization’s overall awareness, image and market share.
Proven experience with developing new markets and identifying opportunities to increase market share within the organization. Strong track record of successful program development.
