This public relations coordinator supports the director of public relations and the chief operating officer of the association. Principal duties are
Assisting with the coordination of public relations, social media and industry marketing programs and initiatives
Writing for a variety of print and electronic products, including, but not limited to, news releases, social media posts, magazine and newsletter articles, and web-based copy
Distributing news releases and other PR products, developing and maintaining media lists, gathering metrics, and performing other research
Scheduling social media posts and tracking metrics. Preparing social media reports and associated graphics
Producing (filming and editing) in-house videos
Providing direct assistance for annual industry awards programs. Working with the director of public relations in executing awards-related communications and marketing plans. Providing administrative support to awards program management.
Providing support to various association volunteer committees
Performing daily and ad hoc news monitoring to create reports and associated graphics for senior management, other staff, and additional executive audiences
Serving as back up to director of public relations for inquiries by email and telephone from members of the news media and the general public seeking information or comments from the association on industry issues
Providing administrative support, as requested, by chief operating officer and performing other administrative duties
Requires a bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing, or English, plus at least one to two years of relevant professional work experience. College internships in a related field also are preferred. Proficiencies in using Microsoft Office suite products and familiarity with journalistic writing style. Some experience using video editing software (Final Cut Pro), and online news media monitoring, PR management, and social media management platforms (e.g., Cision) is highly desired.
Must possess solid writing, proofing, and third-party research skills, have excellent phone manners and professional demeanor, and feel at ease interacting with reporters, association members, and the general public. Attention to detail is a must. The ideal candidate possesses a creative eye and has the ability to juggle and manage multiple, deadline-driven tasks in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
