The College of Arts and Humanities is seeking a Photographer/Videographer to join their Marketing and Communications team. The Photographer/Videographer manages all photography and videography for the performing arts at Maryland, both in studio and on location, supporting the goals and priorities established to extend messaging and storytelling for the performing arts partners at Maryland. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Brand Marketing, this position supports photography/videography for the Artist Partner Program; the School of Music; the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies; the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library and The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. This position works collaboratively across the marketing and communications team and all partners in identifying photo/video needs, art directing, conducting photo and video shoots, and maintaining a searchable archive of images. It is vital that this position develop great working relationships and leverage interpersonal skills to coordinate all aspects of the shoots, manage multiple projects simultaneously and ensure the highest quality and creativity of the final products. The Photographer/Videographer also recruits, hires and trains a team of on-call photographers annually to allow for higher volume needs. The outputs of this position are utilized across a variety of communications platforms including web, print, digital publications, social media and onsite events.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum of two - four years of demonstrated experience in video and digital photography, including professional level techniques and standards, conceptualization, production and project management both in studio and in the field. Must have superb producing and editing skills. Knowledge of best practices for troubleshooting video, audio and lighting equipment as well as video compression output and encoding. Expertise using Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively while managing multiple, concurrent projects and clients with varying needs. Strong interpersonal skills in coordinating the process, moving the work forward, and meeting budgets and timelines. Skilled storyteller with ability to capture poignant artistic moments? editing for emotion, expertise, brevity and/or clarity. Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Experience managing photo/video equipment and archives.
Preferences: Bachelor’s Degree in Photography, Digital Media Production, Video Production, or Film Production. Background in the arts or experience with arts institutions. Experience in a public higher education institution. Knowledge of Podio or other project management software. Some experience with Adobe creative suite. Experience producing compelling content for social media channels.
