Under the direction of the President/CEO of HealthCare Partners and in accordance with AHS mission and vision, this position is charged with daily responsibility for Business Development & Provider Recruitment Strategy. This position provides overall direction of department staff assuming a key leadership role in developing strategic and operational plans including the budget, and assures department services and goals are accomplished by providing appropriate guidance and direction. Provides leadership in the areas of business development ensuring the analysis and identification of growth opportunities in order to develop and promote the HCP’s physicians, advanced practice professionals and service-line offerings on more than one level. This includes the development of relationships with existing physicians, partners, business units within the Central Florida Division – North Region and other entities as well as supporting activities related to sales, marketing, client relations, operations and practice management. This position is responsible for departmental planning, finances, budget, resource and personnel management and development, quality services and licensure and certification requirements for both staff, providers, and services. The development, interpretation, application, monitoring and review of departmental policies and procedures is expected along with compliance with corporate and Central Florida Division – North Region policies and procedures to ensure effective and efficient operations. This department assists in the startup of new practices. Compliance with JCAHO standards and HIPAA compliance, and the promotion of teamwork along with excellent internal and external customer satisfaction weighs heavily on this position. Exercises objective independent judgment and demonstrates strong interpersonal and managerial skills.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible to increase HealthCare Partner’s profitability by generating new prospects, through the development of relationships with existing physicians, partners, sister hospitals and other entities as well as new partnerships, ventures, service-lines, market segments etc.
Responsible for identifying, assessing and recommending business and growth opportunities in order to develop and promote physicians and various services-line offerings to achieve established goals. This includes community relations, networking, and market analysis, business modeling, marketing, client and operations management.
Develops strategic plan for the local market; proactively identifies and profiles target partners and develops supporting business plans and collaborates with Hospital Entities, Public Relations, Marketing and Finance to promote service offerings and physicians.
Responsible to work collaboratively with the the EFR Director of Physician Relations and the AVP Integrated Marketing to develop strategic direction that supports identified business initiatives, message development, execution of hospital and system-wide volume-driving advertising and/or branding plans as well as assists in consumer marketing campaigns/strategies including but not limited to, advertising, marketing, community relations, special events, community sponsorships, customer service, and identifies new business opportunities in order to develop relationships with key corporate entities/partners.
Reviews and analyzes physician practice reports demonstrating ability to read and understand reports, expense variances and is able to provide justification for the same while appropriately assigning payables and credits against budgetary categories and assures correctness and timeliness of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable. Takes corrective action, when necessary, to correct negative variances.
In collaboration with the HCP Regional Corporate Responsibility Officer, coordinate internal practice compliance review and monitoring activities and as appropriate, coordinate external reviews. Oversees internal and external audit procedures for the purpose of monitoring and detecting any misconduct or non-practice compliance. Initiate follow-up to ensure issues identified by audit are resolved and that recommendations have been implemented. Ensures practices follow applicable HIPAA and Patient Privacy Guidelines.
In collaboration with Human Resources, identify potential areas of practice compliance vulnerability and risk; develop/implement corrective action plans for the resolution of problematic issues, and provide general guidance to HCP on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.
Directs Physician and Advanced practice professional rcruitment and practice acquisition to support Central Florida Region – North Region’s goals for market growth and provision of services. Insures timely recruitment and credentialing of physicians and advanced practice professionals in primary care and the desired specialties. Collaborates with the credentialing specialist for out-patient, non-hospital practice and billing. May innteract with hospital Medical Executive Committees to identify and respond to issues with hospital credentialing and privileges. Identifies and responds to physician needs to maintain allegiance to AHS and HCP.
Responds to problems/concerns of the physicians and staff members of the practice ensuring appropriate administrative staff is aware of problems/concerns. Acts as practice liaison for customers (i.e. patients, medical staff, and hospital staff members).
Participates in the hiring process for physicians, advanced practice professionals, and staff. Completes staff performance evaluations timely and is involved in employee counseling, coaching and termination per policy. Provides orientation for new employees and ensures compliance with department policy and procedure. Maintains high levels of employee engagement and job performance by providing recognition and opportunities for learning.Ability to appropriately handle stress and interact with others
Responsible for overseeing and mentoring recruitment staff.
Responsible for establishing, communicating, and monitoring goals for staff and facilitating strategies to achieve high levels of employee engagement.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Understand and interpret existing policies and procedures and apply mature, independent judgment in the application of these policies and procedures to situations that may arise. Good judgment is essential in prioritization of job responsibilities and enforcement of policies when unusual situations occur. Consequences of decisions may be extensive, involving tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Understand the preparation of operating, salary and capital budgets while maintaining practice compliance of those budgets and the productivity standard set for the departments.
Understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality and practice compliance with Local, State of Florida, and Federal Statutes and adhering to the standards of all accrediting bodies.
Demonstrates professional competency, ability to develop and execute both strategic and financial plan
Demonstrate strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple complex responsibilities in a matrixed work environment.
Demonstrate fundamental knowledge of resources and market business data with the ability to apply the information in the development and implementation, measurement and evaluation of marketing programs.
Ability to develop positive working relationships with peers, physicians, staff, strategic partners and community and ability to communicate effectively and is able to inspire and motivate others.
Excellent knowledge of health care delivery system and legal regulations.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare administration, or similar field.
Five+ years’ experience with proven results in healthcare business development or leadership role that includes management of key functions: physician relations, marketing and planning, promotional plan development, strategic and business plan development.
Extensive experience facilitating and managing challenging situations, including conflict resolution and demonstration of outstanding interpersonal skills.
Experience in facilitating high-level multidisciplinary group decisions.
Experience with internal controls, budget management and overall department management. Requires a high level of knowledge for the oversight of department operations, which are highly regulated by local, state, federal laws, EMTALA, Patient Bill of Rights, JCAHO and OSHA requirements.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Highly proficient working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
Must be self-motivated and able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Possess good organizational skills.
Knowledge in coding, billing and reimbursement.
Unrestricted Driver’s license required.
Skill in developing and maintaining effective relationships with medical and administrative staff, patients and the community.
Strong financial and business operations background with ability to think critically and strategically
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s Degree in Health, Business Administration or any related degree of studies or related experience. Master's degree preferred
A minimum of five to seven years or progressive work experience in a multispecialty physician group model with proven management success. Practice management or health care operations experience required. Experience managing an Anesthesiology practice is highly preferred.
Direct experience in managing multiple practices is preferred.
Management experience in a multidisciplinary clinical setting preferred.
Experience in budgeting and practice analysis.
Experience in effectively managing teams and facilitating teamwork.
Experience in managing physician practice revenue cycle.
Experience with hospital operations is a plus.
