The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra seeks a Communications Coordinator who will report to the Assistant Director of Communications.
The Communications Coordinator supports the department’s efforts to achieve excellence in its publications, PR activities and social media presence. The Coordinator organizes the production of the BSO’s bi-monthly program magazine, Overture, and is a key figure in supporting the implementation of the department’s overall communications strategy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collects, edits and proof-reads copy for Overture. Organizes and participates in the determination of editorial content. Works closely with the Assistant Director of Communications and the program publisher to ensure the accuracy and timely delivery of the program.
Maintains, updates and implements a publications/production schedule, enforcing and communicating deadlines to appropriate parties as needed. Maintains a rigorous routing and proofing schedule.
Proof-reads and edits other publications and materials.
Maintains current musician biographies and photos.
Drafts select press releases and media alerts. Maintains media distribution list.
Develops content BSO website and for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Assists with planning and execution of PR events, providing on-site support if needed.
Assists with the management of media inquiries and other requests.
Collaborates with Communications team to develop ideas to promote the BSO.
Assists with administrative duties in Marketing and Communications department.
Other duties as assigned.

1-2 years of publications and PR experience, preferably in a professional arts setting.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism or related field.
Classical music knowledge preferred.
Ability to proofread for grammar, spelling and punctuation with a high degree of accuracy.
Knowledge of communications technologies and social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
Superior organizational skills, attention to detail and an ability to meet deadlines.
Proficiency with Microsoft programs.
Must demonstrate initiative and strong problem-solving skills and be able to participate successfully in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects at once.
