Contributes to the success of the GNCVB mission and adheres to its core ideology through personal sales initiatives and leadership leading to increased revenue streams for client hotels. Responsible for developing an annual plan for approval and providing quarterly updates for/to same.
This position requires flexibility of hours, weekend work and overnight travel.
Scope of Work:
Develops/implements sales strategies (plans/objectives/outcomes) targeting business growth for GNCVB hotels.
Represents Newark at appropriately selected trade shows.
Plans out of market sales missions, local market sales outreach, FAM tours.
Maintains client contact and communication, develops sound relationships.
Consultatively works with GNCVB hotels and attractions to better position Newark’s assets for the destination market.
Responsible for the development, maintenance and effective use of the GNCVB client and customer database (CRM) (Simpleview) as it relates to client hotels, local contacts and travel industry contacts (travel planners, group leaders, event promoters, etc.).
Establishes and maintains relationships with statewide industry groups.
Actively participation with industry member association for networking opportunities
Host, Lead and Facilitate Quarterly Director of Sales Meetings.
Establish and maintain solid working relations with the hospitality and travel community.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of our tourism product to include sports venues, city hotels, attractions, airlines, catering venues, recreation, etc.
Stay abreast of industry trends and practices; maintain awareness of competing cities
Prepare and distribute various weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual internal and external contracts, quotes and reports within established deadlines.
Administer and maintain department related databases, project plans and spreadsheets to track information and handle projects.
Provides input and direction to the development and production of promotional and collateral materials necessary to effectively sell Newark as a destination city.
Tracks, documents and reports on activities and outcomes monthly.
Prepares monthly and quarterly tracking reports from CRM and other sources.
Maintain a system calendar and utilizes technology platforms to more effectively enable communications and tracking.
Qualifications: Experience in hotel, travel or group sales is preferred.

The Greater Newark Convention & Visitors Bureau is the official destination marketing organization for the City of Newark, New Jersey. The (GNCVB) is a private 501(c) (6) New Jersey non-profit corporation, funded by Newark hotels through a Tourism Improvement District and is the primary programmatic arm for Newark’s travel and tourism industry. Our goal is to create economic growth and increase visitor spending by developing and implementing comprehensive destination marketing programs to create economic growth, local jobs and advance tourism in the city.
