The Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry, located in Northern Virginia, is the national trade association representing 2,400 companies engaged primarily in manufacturing, supplying and constructing acoustic systems, ceiling systems, drywall systems, exterior insulation and finishing systems, plastering and steel framing systems. AWCI invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Director of Membership Acquisition and Engagement located in Northern Virginia. The position is responsible for strategic planning and implementation targeting new member acquisition, membership renewal and outreach initiatives that engage members in association programs, networks, media and AWCI-generated content. The position reports to the Executive Vice President & CEO.
Develop and implement annual marketing campaign that generates membership growth, with a primary focus on new contractor members.
Work closely with Membership System Manager and Executive Assistant on membership renewal and retention activities.
Develop high-quality prospect lists from the magazine subscriber file, convention and trade show attendance, attendance at other AWCI and industry events, other association memberships and purchased lists.
Effectively manage incoming membership queries, responding promptly to inquiries from prospective members, lifetime members and others.
Member Engagement - Content Strategy and Implementation
Working closely with senior staff and the EVP & CEO to develop and implement a strategy to deliver content across all AWCI platforms—print, website, social media channels, etc.
Segment membership engagement initiatives by type of member (contractor, supplier/distributor and manufacturer), construction project types and generation (millennial, Generation X, baby boomer, etc.)
Demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency in understanding the challenges members face in the construction industry.
Collect and publish industry research of value for the members.
Provide strategic oversight of the AWCI website and maintain the accuracy of the “AWCI” pages—awci.org/awci.
Develop, manage and track metrics to measure the engagement of association members.
Analyze member responses to content and messaging weekly to detect patterns and areas of most interest.
Expand the personnel lists for member companies in the membership database to increase circulation of digital products and engagement.
Member Engagement - Committees
Maintain committee rosters so that each committee has engaged members to carry out the scope of the committee.
Maintain records of chapter officers and directors in the member database.
Serve as staff liaison to the AWCI Industry Awards Committee, the Membership Development Committee and any other committees assigned by the Executive Vice President & CEO.
Maintain the accuracy of committee rosters and publish twice annually, once preceding the annual convention and once preceding the fall conference.
Serve as the primary contact for existing business forums, and create new business or topic forums as member interest grows.
Engage volunteer leadership of AWCI chapters and Executive Directors.
Member Engagement - Programs
Manage all aspects of the annual awards program and increase the number of award submissions through outreach initiatives.
Drive usage of AWCI discount programs including ConsensusDocs and safety equipment and business supplies and services.
Fine-tune existing programs and benefits, and develop new programs and benefits that respond to the challenges faced by members.
Collaborate and coordinate with other staff on marketing initiatives, products and programs.
Develop and manage a monthly webinar series with a goal of hosting webinars more frequently in the future.
Develop and implement tactics to engage members in association activities, to utilize AWCI products and to attend AWCI events.
Working closely with the Director of Convention & Conferences, oversee the layout, content, staffing and operation of the AWCI booth at the INTEX Expo.
A minimum of five years of experience in membership recruitment, retention, engagement and association program management including working with volunteer committees, preferably within a trade association environment.
Proven record in engaging association members to increase satisfaction with association products and services.
Experienced with a construction-related association and knowledge of interior and exterior wall and ceiling construction practices and products is an asset.
Demonstrated proficiency in the sales and marketing process with an emphasis on awareness-building, lead generation and marketing campaign management.
Demonstrated ability to proactively work collaboratively in a team environment.
Ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter who is detail-oriented and able to manage his/her time and multiple deadlines efficiently.
Able to work well with volunteers.
Able to communicate with members and other industry constituents.
Able to work closely with office colleagues in a productive, mutually beneficial and teamwork environment.
Ability to sell the value of membership in the association to new members is important.
Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, database management applications, social media applications and list management software is required.
Think strategically with strong analytical, communication, planning and project management skills.
Be self-sufficient with respect to routine day-to-day office activities.
