The organization has a budget of $93M, which comes from member congregations, programming and philanthropic efforts that are initiated by the URJ, its camps, and other entities. More than 300 individuals are employed by the URJ year-round, and that number grows to thousands during the summer, when its 15 camps and most of its youth travel programs are in session.

Reporting to the President of the URJ, this Executive Vice President position is a unique and critically important opportunity for a top-tier executive to help optimize the URJ’s position for growth and continued impact in both the North American and global Jewish community. The URJ is looking for someone to work closely with the Executive team, and to partner with President Rick Jacobs to transform and optimize the internal operations of its complex infrastructure. The creation of this new EVP position was carefully constructed to allow President Rick Jacobs to dedicate more of his time towards actualizing the key strategic priorities of the 2020 Vision.
This EVP has a mandate to work closely with the URJ President and the URJ Board of Trustees with a focus on generating and implementing effective and innovative strategies in the areas of operational systems, program, strategic planning, finance, development, marketing, technology and, in order to strengthen synergies between departments, and to drive large-scale projects to completion.
The EVP will supervise the outstanding and high-performing Executive Team, to assist them in continually strengthening and developing the capacity of each of their departments, and to drive coordination amongst them. The EVP will guide and direct all day-to-day internal operations of the URJ, and work closely with the President and the Executive Team to build out and implement action plans which will help to support and continually develop the vision of the URJ.
The President of the URJ seeks an experienced senior manager to work in close partnership with him who is action oriented, and who can serve as a strategic engine in implementing the day-to-day work necessary to achieve the ambitious and important agenda that he and the Board of Trustees has developed and laid out. Outstanding candidates for this position will understand how to facilitate, mediate and make decisions around competing priorities in the organization by building strong relationships with team members and by skillfully guiding those teams to drive the translation of the vision of the URJ into a reality.
Qualified Candidates for the EVP position will bring demonstrated successful experience in:
- Developing and stewarding collaboration and creativity when driving large scale, complex projects to completion;
- Supervising and guiding high caliber senior professionals who oversee a wide range of portfolios;
- Consensus building;
- Managing a large and complex organizational infrastructure;
- Making decisions in a timely and thoughtful way;
- Serving as a senior level advisor to a high-profile public organizational leader
