The Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) is a non-profit, multi-service organization focusing primarily on the needs of children and low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth, and aging New Yorkers. We operate at community centers located in the neighborhoods of East Harlem and Yorkville, and seek to deliver programs that are impactful, innovative, and intergenerational.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for reviewing audit data for accounting and financial health deficiencies and compliance with established reporting requirements; monitoring the work flow of the finance work group and acts as quality control over incoming audit data and outgoing compliance correspondence. The Senior Financial Analyst must have a thorough knowledge of modern principles and practices of non-profit management, including business planning, financial administration, resource development and/or community development.
Conducting financial analyses using audited financial statements and other financial reports provided by the non-profit organizations;
Reviewing audit data for accounting and audit deficiencies and for compliance;
Monitoring the work flow of the entire financial analysis work group and acting as quality control; · Planning and executing financial examinations;
Resolving audit and/or auditor problems;
Developing required training curriculum and business connections;
Identifying preliminary scope and course of on-site review activities and produce required reports;
Preventing waste, fraud and abuse;
Providing on-site program review services;
Providing off-site financial health assessments;
Developing assessment tools and products that will help define areas of audit and financial risk;
Monitoring upgrading of financial assessment tools;
Ensuring that all projects are executed accurately and in a timely manner;
Advising management on the coordination of special projects;
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting is required
Eight (8) to ten (10) years’ work experience and demonstrated competency in non-profit financial management, asset/property management and/or audit preparation.
At least five (5) years’ supervisory level finance/accounting experience with nonprofits.
Proven audit review and financial analysis skills, team management and related training skills.
Extensive knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations governing the recording and financial reporting of non-profit organizations (i.e., GAAP).
Knowledge of the requirements of OMB Circular A-133.
Extensive knowledge general administrative and business management principles, practices and techniques.
Strong planning, decision making, and leadership skills are essential as well as strong evaluative, analytical, written and public presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and evaluate subordinate staff.
Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) or Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) preferred.
Proficient in MS Office (Excel and Access), Fund EZ, etc.
